Forty-six Ethiopians drowned and 16 were missing after a human smuggler's boat carrying at least 100 refugees capsized as it approached Yemen. The vessel left the port of Bossasso in Somalia on Tuesday with 83 men and 17 women on board. They were hoping to find work in Yemen and the Gulf, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said in a statement on Wednesday, citing information from survivors. IOM's director of operations and emergencies, Mohammad Abdiker, said the Gulf of Aden's migration tragedy was shameful. "Over 7,000 poor migrants take this perilous journey every month; some 100,000 took it just last year. They are treated appallingly and go through horrendous conditions. death toll from twin blasts on a mosque in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, has risen to at least 16 people, and the number of wounded to 35, security officials who wished to remain anonymous, said. Wednesday's attack on the predominantly Shia Sadr City district caused damage to nearby buildings, the officials said. A statement issued by the Iraqi government said the explosion, which ripped through the mosque, took place at a weapons warehouse in Sadr city. The government noted it was still investigating the incident.  The mosque is frequented by supporters of Shia cleric Muqtada's al- Sadr  whose Sairoon coalition won a plurality of seats, 54 in total, in the last month's parliamentary elections. Earlier in the day, Iraq's parliament voted in favour of a full recount of some 11 million ballots cast in the May 12 vote. Members of parliament also sacked a nine-member independent electoral commission that oversaw the process and replaced the body with judges....

The sentence comes after Genena claimed to be in possession of documents that could incriminate senior army officials. An Egyptian military court has sentenced Hisham Genena, the country's former top auditor, to five years in prison for "spreading news that harms the armed forces." Genena, a top campaign aide to former presidential hopeful Sami Anan, was  arrested on February 13  after allegedly threatening in an interview to release "documents and evidence" of corruption in the army's higher ranks if Anan was harmed in detention. Anan, a retired army general, had been  detained in January , just three days after announcing his short-lived presidential bid.  The trial on Wednesday was contested by Genena's lawyers who argued the case did not fall under the military court's jurisdiction.
