Phone manufacturers have suffered declines in demand for high-end phones costing over $1,000 as the global economy slowed. They consequently shifted their business focus to less premium or midrange phones. If the price threshold for high-end phones has been set at $1,000, what should be the standard for “affordable” ones? Would it help users justify their handset changes? Some information technology experts on Friday in Lagos said that adoption of 5G communication network would accelerate connectivity for living learning and business and dismissed myths of harmful radiation to human health. The IT experts spoke during a virtual public lecture, entitled: “5G Communication Network and Covid-19 Pandemic, the Myths and the Realties”,  organised by Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo. Dr Toyin Enikuomehin, Head of Computer Science at LASU, said that 5G communication network would enhance cyber security, transform the ecosystem and virtual platforms in the country. According to Enikuomehin, the three major features of 5G network are connectivity, latency and speed which would make communication faster than others. “New devices, software, applications will all come along with 5G and definitely aid the way we do things. “Latest technology will define better ways of communication, calls, video and audio, including messages in real time,”Enikuome...

The meme-making business has proven to be worth all the fuss, with  TikTok , as well as its Chinese twin app, Douyin, ranking tops globally on mobile apps with the highest revenue generated for the month of April. Sensor Tower, notes that just in the first quarter of this year, ByteDance Ltd’s brainchild, TikTok, together with Douyin which caters to the Chinese market, generated 315 million downloads globally, from the 187 million it had just a year earlier. The ranking, which was based on their in-app purchases, reveal a tenfold increase, as the companies garnered a whopping $78 million in revenue. The Chinese market is said to have contributed 86.6% of Douyin’s revenue, followed by the U.S market which contributed 8.2%. This places them ahead of older names like Netflix & YouTube. As opposed to using subscriptions like these established brands, TikTok and Douyin allow users to purchase virtual currency to spend on their favorite content creators.
