Deadly twin blasts hit a Shia mosque in Baghdad

death toll from twin blasts on a mosque in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, has risen to at least 16 people, and the number of wounded to 35, security officials who wished to remain anonymous, said.
Wednesday's attack on the predominantly Shia Sadr City district caused damage to nearby buildings, the officials said.
A statement issued by the Iraqi government said the explosion, which ripped through the mosque, took place at a weapons warehouse in Sadr city. The government noted it was still investigating the incident. 

The mosque is frequented by supporters of Shia cleric Muqtada's al-Sadr whose Sairoon coalition won a plurality of seats, 54 in total, in the last month's parliamentary elections.
Earlier in the day, Iraq's parliament voted in favour of a full recount of some 11 million ballots cast in the May 12 vote.
Members of parliament also sacked a nine-member independent electoral commission that oversaw the process and replaced the body with judges.

Oscar Pistorius Will Be Sentenced for Murder After Dismissal of his Appeal

A lawyer for Oscar Pistorius says South Africa’s highest court has dismissed the former track star’s appeal of his murder conviction. The ruling by the Constitutional Court on Thursday clears the way for a judge to sentence Pistorius for murder at a hearing scheduled for April 18. Defense lawyer Andrew Fawcett confirmed the Constitutional Court’s decision and said: “We’ll proceed to the sentencing.” Pistorius, who killed girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his home in 2013, had appealed to the Constitutional Court, saying another court erred when it overturned a manslaughter conviction and declared the Olympic athlete guilty of murder. The minimum sentence for murder in South Africa is 15 years, though a judge can reduce that sentence for what the law describes as exceptional circumstances.
