Sarri explains Ronaldo reaction to being substituted

CR7/ Maurizio Sarri

In the manager words the Juventus star was angry because his knee was sore. The former Real Madrid forward was substituted for Paulo Dybala in the 82nd minute of Wednesday’s Champions League match in the Russian capital.
It is the first time the Portuguese international has failed to complete 90 minutes in a Champions League game since February 2016, and he did not take it well.
Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri says Cristiano Ronaldo’s angry reaction when being substituted against Lokomotiv Moscow was because he had sustained a minor injury.
Speaking after the game Sarri played down Ronaldo’s reaction, insisting it was down to a minor knee problem.
"Ronaldo was angry because he wasn't very well, he had a knee problem a few days ago and his adductor easily got tired," said Sarri.
"At the end of the first half he was nervous. I was afraid he would hurt himself and I preferred to take him off".
The game was still level at 1-1 at the time, though Juve would go on to secure all three points thanks to a stoppage-time strike from substitute Douglas Costa.
It was Juventus’ 300th Champions League goal, becoming just the fifth club to achieve that feat after Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
Sarri admitted his side were far from their best but praised the team’s character for eventually coming away with the victory.
"It was not one of our best performances,” added the former Chelsea boss. “It was very stop start, even though we knew that they would set up a match like this.
"The first half was too open and in the second we had too many players above the defensive line. We risked too much.
“But the team wanted the victory at all costs and achieved it.”

The Real Winner of the Democratic Debate: President Obama   More Sanders Snarks as Democratic Debate Gets Heated Democratic Candidates Court Black Voters at Debate Clinton and Sanders Walk a Careful Line on Women at Debate There were only two Democrats on the debate stage in Milwaukee on Thursday night, but they should have brought a third podium for President Obama. Coming back from a landslide defeat in the New Hampshire primary, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton doggedly criticized Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders on areas where he’d split with Obama while duct-taping herself to the President’s legacy on issues as varied as foreign policy , health care and Wall Street . Sanders, for his part, did his best to hold his ground, justifying his criticism of the President and presenting himself as a change agent while pointing out Clinton’s own differences with Obama. Their heated exchanges over Obama’s legacy reflected how the President has b...

Oscar Pistorius Will Be Sentenced for Murder After Dismissal of his Appeal

A lawyer for Oscar Pistorius says South Africa’s highest court has dismissed the former track star’s appeal of his murder conviction. The ruling by the Constitutional Court on Thursday clears the way for a judge to sentence Pistorius for murder at a hearing scheduled for April 18. Defense lawyer Andrew Fawcett confirmed the Constitutional Court’s decision and said: “We’ll proceed to the sentencing.” Pistorius, who killed girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his home in 2013, had appealed to the Constitutional Court, saying another court erred when it overturned a manslaughter conviction and declared the Olympic athlete guilty of murder. The minimum sentence for murder in South Africa is 15 years, though a judge can reduce that sentence for what the law describes as exceptional circumstances. Pistorius is currently under house arrest. [ Time ]
