Prince’s autopsy was completed at 1 p.m. CT on Friday, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office announced. “The body will be released to family later today,” they said in a statement.
The cause of death has yet to be released for the musician, who was found dead at his home and studio Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Thursday morning, and drug testing could take weeks, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
“As part of a complete exam, relevant information regarding [Prince’s] medical and family history will be gathered,” the statement reads. “Anything which could be relevant to the investigation will be taken into consideration. … Gathering the results will take several days and the results of a full toxicology scan could likely take weeks.”
