Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has been charged with betting on games by the Football Association.
The 35-year-old, who has been charged with 12 offences relating to betting between 22 and 28 January 2016, could face a fine or even a ban. Demichelis has until 5pm to respond to the charges.
Rules introduced to the game last season banned footballers and coaches from betting on matches, anywhere in the world.
Former Newcastle ace Dan Gosling was fined £30,000 for breaching the betting laws, but was able to avoid a suspension.
A spokesman for the FA said: "The bottom line nowadays is that no footballer can bet on football matches anywhere."
Neither Manchester City or the player himself have publicly responded to the charges.
