Abd al-Rahman Mustafa al-Qaduli, also known as Haji Iman, was killed during a raid in Syria this month, defense officials tell NBC News. U.S. State Department

Haji Iman — was widely reported as a senior leader and second in command in the organization.

He was killed during an operation this week, defense officials announced Friday, a major score for the U.S.-led coalition as it tries to erode the terror group's grip on the region.

Australia sent a mission to rescue 37 people who were stranded aboard an Australian icebreaking ship that ran aground after a severe blizzard Wednesday.
