Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport have a important headline for Chelsea fans.
According to the paper, current Italian coach Antonio Conte has agreed a deal in principle to become the new Chelsea boss.
The front page headline claims Conte and Chelsea have a ‘basic agreement’.
The Conte links to Stamford Bridge are not new.
Indeed, Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio has recently reported that Conte has spoken to Chelsea about taking over from Guus Hiddink for the beginning of next season, after he completes his job with the Azzurri at Euro 2016.
Getting into the meat of the story, GdS report that Chelsea have given a “serious nod” to Conte after “direct contact” with the Italian coach. Gazzetta also suggest the parties may have agreed a pre-contract already, however it’s noted that Roman Abramovich still has the option to tank the deal.
Diego Simone and Massimo Allegri remain the main alternatives to Conte.
Chelsea are expected to confirm their new manager by mid-March.
