Testosterone may be one of the reasons why men are more prone to heart attacks than women, according to new research. Edinburgh University scientists examined the effects of testosterone on blood vessel tissue and found it triggered the production of hard deposits or calcification. The deposits “powerfully” predict the chance of death or major problems due to heart disease, they said. During the study mice had testosterone receptors removed. The mice then produced fewer hard deposits as they could no longer respond to the hormone. Heart valves Calcification causes blood vessels to harden and thicken, making the heart work harder to pump blood around the body. It can also affect the valves of the heart, preventing them opening and shutting properly. The authors said their findings suggested testosterone played a role in calcification and the discovery may lead to new treatments to prevent heart disease. A type of hummingbird that measures just a few inches in length can fly more than 1,200 miles without stopping during its annual migration from the U.S. East Coast to Central America, according to new  research . The new study, published in the journal  The Auk: Ornithological Advances,  provides some of the first evidence on how Tiny Ruby-throated Hummingbirds travel during their fall migration .  The results suggest that the  species  has significant differences from the Rufous Hummingbirds—its more studied counterpart. But some Tiny Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are better equipped for their annual journey than others. The study shows that older birds tend to migrate earlier, travel faster and arrive with relatively few wounds from their journey. Male birds can also travel farther without rest than their female counterparts. The Nigerian Government has announced the indigenous development and validation of RNA Swift, a test kit for the identification of SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent for Covid-19, to accelerate the capacity to test people and help manage the Corona virus pandemic. Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the nation's capital, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu said that the "RNA Swift has amazing precision for the detection of SARS-COV-2 and would be available at a price that places it ahead of competitors in terms of sensitivity and affordability." According to Dr. Onu, the RNA Swift was borne out of a need in the Agricultural sector to test Nigerian farmers and labourers in the country. Five suspects have been arrested for the murder of rapper Pop Smoke in February, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Thursday morning. “LAPD Detectives have arrested three adult males & two juvenile males related to the Feb 19th murder of Bashar Jackson, a New York based rapper known as Pop Smoke,” the LAPD HQ account  tweeted. “We will provide further details as they become available.” Pop Smoke was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds Feb. 19 when police responded to a call on Hercules Drive in the Mount Olympus area of the Hollywood Hills. Rivera rented the boat about 1 p.m. and had an afternoon of swimming with her son, who was the last to see her before she went missing, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Eric Buschow. Buschow said the boy got back onto the boat after a swim but his mother did not follow. “We’re going on the belief that she did go in the water and we have not been able to locate her. So this may well be a case of drowning,” Buschow told reporters. The 4-year-old was found sleeping on the boat by himself by other boaters in the lake. “He’s in good health,” Bushow said of Rivera’s son. Final year secondary school students in Nigeria won't participate in the forthcoming West African Examination Council(WAEC) examinations, the Federal Government has declared. The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who disclosed this to State House Correspondents on Wednesday after the week's virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, also said there is no date for school resumption yet till further notice. He said he would prefer Nigerian students to lose an academic year to expose them to dangers. Adamu said that Nigerian schools will not reopen any time soon until it was safe to do so because of the ongoing pandemic.

A Russian district court has dismissed bitcoin theft as a crime since cryptocurrency is not regulated in Russia and there is no legal status for bitcoin. The accused were found guilty, sentenced to prison, and ordered to return only the fiat money stolen — not cryptocurrencies. St. Petersburg’s Petrogradsky District Court has announced the verdict in a theft case involving bitcoin filed in December, the joint press service of the judicial system of St. Petersburg announced on Tuesday. The two accused, Peter Piron and Yevgeny Prigozhin, disguised as officers of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) in 2018, forced the plaintiff to transfer cash and cryptocurrencies to them.
