ANC rallies behind Zuma Karen Allen BBC Southern Africa correspondent, Johannesburg South Africa's governing African National Congress (ANC) party had defended President Jacob Zuma's dramatic U-turn on the appointment of a new finance minister. It denies that he faced internal pressure from within the party just days after the appointment of Des van Rooyen - an outsider with  no experience at national government level - sent the economy into free-fall.  The markets have rallied at the news that Pravin Gordhan is returning to the job but Mr Zuma's credibility has been severely dented.  http://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-africa-35010088

Nigeria U23 2-1 Algeria U23: Dream Team VI are African champions         Etebo Oghenekaro’s first half goals were enough to separate the two teams and give Samson Siasia’s lads the African crown for the first time   Nigeria will feature at the Rio 2016 Olympics as African champions after defeating Algeria 2-1 in the final of the African U23 championship played at the Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor on Saturday night. Etebo Oghenekaro, the competition’s top scorer repeated his fluency and brilliance in front of goal as he scored the goals that handed the Dream Team VI their first Africa U23 diadem. The dogged north Africans got a life line as Segun Oduduwa nodded home Zinedine Ferhat’s cross but the Nigerians stayed stanch  with goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel saving Ferhat’s penalty in the second half. It was the first time Nigeria had conceded in the first half of the competition but it came to a bitter pill to swallow for Pierre Andre Schurmann’s team who failed to
IT'S A BIG WEEKEND FOR... REAL MADRID There is no let-up for Real Madrid at the moment. Rafa Benitez's side have won five games in a row since losing the Clasico to Barcelona on November 21, but they need to keep on winning in order to maintain their hopes of claiming La Liga at the end of the season. With a relatively straightforward calendar since the Barca game and winnable matches to come against Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad at home before the end of the year, Sunday's trip to Villarreal represents their last big test in 2015 and only a victory will do at El Madrigal. Barca are at home to Deportivo and almost certain to win that one, so the Catalans look likely to be seven points clear of Real on Sunday. Meanwhile, Villarreal are currently in fifth and playing some fantastic football under Marcelino, but the Yellow Submarine did concede three in a 3-3 draw away to Viktoria Plzen on Thursday and their coach said: "If we defend like that against Madrid, they
