Samia: Ali inspired us to build Nkrumahist force

The daughter of Ghana’s first president, Samia Yaba Nkrumah, has said that former boxing champion Muhammad Ali was an inspiration towards the formation of a strong Nkrumahist front to liberate Ghanaians from their current plight.

She stated this in a message of condolence after the demise of the boxer on June 4, 2016, which was posted on her Facebook wall.

The former Chairman of the Convention People’s Party – the party formed by her father, Dr Kwame Nkrumah – said she drew a lot of inspiration from the Afro-American activist who refused to join the US army in the Vietnam war, a decision which resulted in authorities stripping him of his medals and seizure of his boxing licence, rendering him unable to fight for four years.

She said the boxing legend continued “to inspire us to continue to build a truly Nkrumahist revolutionary force to free us from poverty, exploitation and marginalisation”.
